St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Audubon Tea Room Wedding | Claire & Shane

Married December 22 , 2018
Bridal Prep: Family Home
Ceremony: St Joseph on Tulane
Reception: Audubon Tea Room
Bakery: La Louisiane

How did you meet?
We met when I did a summer internship at Shane’s work in the summer of 2014

How did the proposal go? Who proposed to who, were you surprised?
Shane proposed to me at the Cliffs of Mohr in Ireland!

Where was your ceremony held and why did you pick this site?
We got married at St. Joseph’s on Tulane Avenue. In our opinion, this is the most beautiful church in the city, and it ended up that quite a few of my high school friends got married/will get married at St. Joseph’s, so it’s something special we will share

Where was your Reception held and why did you pick this site?
The reception was at the Audubon Tea Room! We loved it because it’s a beautiful venue with plenty of parking for guests!

What unique or special things did you do at the reception?
We had a baby alligator available for guests to pet at our reception! This is only available through the tea room because of its affiliation with the zoo. Our guests enjoyed it and so did we! We pet the alligator with my nephews and had so much fun!

What was your favorite part of the day?
This can’t be captured in the photos, but Michelle Richards (the music coordinator at St Joseph) arranged all of our liturgical music for the mass, and that made our day so special. I get chills when I think back and watch videos of our ceremony. She made it so special for us!

Did it really go by as quickly as everyone says?
Yep! It’s very strange not having a wedding to plan anymore

What was the inspiration behind picking the color palette and decor that you picked?
We liked the color purple, and we were deciding between a shade of purple and a shade of teal. Since we got married during advent, choosing a dark purple was easy because we could work with the altar decorations.

Who was your baker, what was the flavor of your cake? Was it delicious?!
La Louisiane. It was amazing m! We had an almond cake with Swiss buttercream and a pecan praline mousseline filling. We loved it and we got tons of compliments that it was the best wedding cake anyone had ever had!

Did you have a coordinator or did you plan everything yourself? If you didn’t have a coordinator any advice for brides planning their own wedding?
We didn’t have a coordinator. My best advice is to be as organized as possible. Get email confirmations for absolutely everything you agree to with your vendors. The more organized you are, the calmer you can be the day of. I had a lot of peace of mind on our big day because I knew I did everything in my power to properly communicate what we wanted to our vendors. Everything was perfect and I wouldn’t change a thing 🙂
