How did you meet?
We met at Loyola University right there in New Orleans! We knew each other through mutual friends but did not have our own relationship until our final semester when we took a class together. We were part of the class of 2020, so it was really special getting to have our wedding at Holy Name of Jesus Church right next to campus! Our wedding was kind of the graduation party we never had. We are so grateful so many of our friends were able to make it!

Include a little bit about yourselves. What do you do?
Daniel is a licensed counselor and Marta is a music therapist. While New Orleans will always be a second home, we currently live in Houston, TX! Daniel was born and raised in Guatemala and Marta’s father immigrated to Houston from Costa Rica. Our Latin American roots have always been something that bonded us and we were so grateful so many of our family members from these countries were able to make it to the wedding!

What is your favorite thing about each other?
How did the proposal go? Who proposed to who, were you surprised?

Did it really go by as quickly as everyone says?
Absolutely! One thing we both talked about is how we had no sense of time from when the pictures started to the end of the reception. We didn’t wear watches and we did not have our phones on us. Before we even had a chance to check the time, it was time for the next thing on the schedule! It was over before we knew it! We loved every second:)

Who was your baker, what was the flavor of your cake? Was it delicious?!
Marta’s aunt Sylvia baked the cake! The top tier was almond and apricot and the bottom tier was coffee and hazelnut. It was delicious! She is so talented and we were so grateful for her willingness to help make our special day even more special!

What was your first dance song? Why this song?
We danced to “I’m With You” by Vance Joy. After we graduated, while the pandemic was still happening, we found ourselves, for the first time in ages, without anything on our to-do list! It was a beautiful day and we decided to bike to Audubon Park. We biked around for a while and then took a rest on a bench by the water. Daniel was playing music from a speaker and that song came on. When we heard the lyrics “I was just coasting ’till we met. You remind me just how good it can get.” we felt it perfectly described our situation! Since then, it has kind of been “our song”.

We want to hear YOUR advice for future brides or grooms?

Eat before the ceremony!!! Marta was anxious day of and, as a result, was not hungry that morning. She tried to make herself eat something, but still ended up not eating enough and almost passed out during the ceremony! Luckily, there was a diabetic in the crowd who had a glucose tablet on hand. All went well, but she definitely could have benefitted from having a little more to eat that morning. Perhaps a protein shake to sip on while getting ready?

We work really hard to help come up with a timeline and plan for the portrait list to make sure you are getting the most out of your day. How useful was this for you?
So helpful! Everything went so smoothly, even when we had to change picture spots due to wind.

Anything else you want to say?
Marta’s ceremony dress was worn by her mother and grandmother! She was so honored to wear a dress that touched two beautiful weddings that started inspiring, lifelong marriages!
