After an LSU baseball game at a famous LSU hangout, Matt and a group of friends noticed Hope and her friend in the crowd. They decided to walk over and introduce themselves. The rest, as they say, is history. A point of interest to be noted, however, is the persistence of Matt. It only took him 3 months to convince Hope to go on their first date!

Tell us about the proposal!
Matt secretly planned a trip to Chicago under the pretense that it would be a trip for Hope graduating from medical school. Matt proposed Friday evening in front of the Chicago skyline at Buckingham Fountain. This was not before Hope saved the day by hailing a cab as Matt had become so nervous right before that he couldn’t get Uber to work and nearly missed the sunset that he had timed everything around! The moment ended up being perfect, captured by the secret photographer Matt hired.

Where was your wedding ceremony held and why did you pick this site?
The wedding ceremony was at Il Mercato in New Orleans, Louisiana. When Hope turned 7, her dad took her to New Orleans for a daddy-daughter weekend away. Since then, NOLA has been her city. It was no surprise that the wedding was held here.

Where was your wedding Reception held and why did you pick this site?
The reception and ceremony were both held at Il Mercato. Out of the 5 venues up for consideration, Il Mercato stood out for its elegant decor, arches, and unmatched attention to detail.

What was your favorite part of the day?
Hope‘s favorite part of the day was the party bus after the reception.

Matt’s favorite part of the day was the first look before the ceremony.

Did it really go by as quickly as everyone says?
Faster. Hope and Matt plan to hold an anniversary event (with a smaller guest list!) to relive the night. They ill use the same caterer, same menu, and same band.

What was the inspiration for picking the color palette and decor that you picked?
Hope wanted the event to be elegant and understated, choosing to go with golds and neutrals.

From the Bride – When you first saw the groom, what were you thinking/feeling?
The day had been so emotionally charged. During the first look, I felt an instant sense of peace in the second that I turned that corner and saw Matt standing there. I also thought that he looked quite attractive in a tux!

From the groom – When you first saw the bride, what were you thinking/feeling?
I was thinking, “don’t cry!”

Did you do a first look? If so how did you feel about it? If not, do you wish you had?
Yes! Both Hope and Matt were both instantly relieved to see each other and were so glad that they decided to do the first look. It allowed them a private moment before the public event began.

Band or DJ? Did they rock it?
The band hired was the Tricky Dickies. Based on the feedback from the guests, it’s safe to say that they rocked out!

We want to hear YOUR advice for future brides.
Stay in the moment. It is so easy to look forward to the next thing to come. Each part of the event is special in it’s own right!

Have Your Wedding at Il Mercato

Il Mercato is available for ceremony and wedding receptions. It is located on Magazine Street in the Lower Garden District of New Orleans.  Prominent local architect Sam Stone designed Il Mercato in a Spanish colonial style.  Sam Stone also worked on alterations for Felicity Church, another beautiful New Orleans wedding venue and the famous Maison Blanche department store on Canal Street. What you probably don’t know is it was originally constructed as a neighborhood market and there was quite the clamor about the Spanish colonial style look not fitting in with the neighborhood.  The 5000 square foot interior has herringbone wood floors, Italianate chandeliers, and a furnished library with banquet seating.   Outside your guests will enjoy the 3,500 square feet area comprised of a courtyard and covered arcade.  When you first enter the courtyard you are greeted by the impressive white fireplace which makes a captivating background for your wedding ceremony in the courtyard.
