JW Marriott New Orleans Immaculate Conception Wedding | Courtney + Garet

We wanted to know all the good stuff about how this cute couple met!
While at LSU, Courtney was forced to go out to celebrate her roommate’s boyfriend’s big brother’s (in a fraternity) 21st birthday. Turns out the birthday boy was Garet. As they all hung out at The House in Tigerland, Garet and Courtney started talking. As the night progressed, Courtney and Garet wanted to stay out while the rest thought it was time to head home. The two then continued on and made it a goal to get a drink at every single bar in Tigerland, a triumphant night. From there, the rest is history. They talked throughout winter break while Courtney was home in DC and when she came back, the two of them, along with friends, had a crazy (and frankly upsetting) night in New Orleans for the LSU v Alabama National Championship game. Even though LSU lost, the night turned around when Garet asked Courtney to be his girlfriend.

How did the proposal go?
As usual, Garet made Courtney breakfast on a casual Sunday morning. As Courtney already began to eat, Garet sat down and said “whenever I do propose, I only care if it is a surprise.” Courtney then says, “good luck” and took a bite out of her bagel. When she turned around (with a mouth full of bagel) she found Garet on one knee with a box and a diamond ring asking “will you marry me?”

Where was your ceremony held and why did you pick this site?
The ceremony was held at Immaculate Conception Jesuit Church in New Orleans. I (Courtney) fell in love with the church the minute I saw it (about a year into our relationship) and always told Garet that I wanted to get married there. It is so uniquely beautiful and just perfect for the type of wedding I wanted (classic romantic). It was a no brainer to book it, which was the first thing we did after getting engaged!

Where was your Reception held and why did you pick this site?
The reception was at JW Marriott. Primarily, I (Courtney) wanted to keep everything centralized. Being from DC, we had a lot of out of town guests coming in and we wanted everything to be in the city and close together that everyone could walk. However, we ended up choosing the JW cause the ambiance and all that they had to offer was a perfect fit for what we wanted.

What was the inspiration behind picking the color palette and decor that you picked?
I wanted my wedding to be classic and romantic – my color palette, I think, reflected that well

Did you do a first look?
Yes, we did! I (Courtney) am a nervous person in nature so doing a first look helped calm my nerves. It was really special to have that moment with just the two of us before the ceremony as well.

Did you have a coordinator or did you plan everything yourself? If you didn’t have a coordinator any advice for brides planning their own wedding?
I had a day-of/week-of coordinator and they were amazing – I recommend to any bride to at least do that. Mise En Place ensured all the last minute details were in place and I did not have to worry about a thing the day of.

What unique or special things did you do at the reception?
We had a live painter (Kelly Boyett) that did an AMAZING job! We had a second line band that not only lead our second line to the reception but stayed for the cocktail hour. We had a Memory Table, Cigar bar and fun glow sticks for the dance floor!

Band or DJ? Did they rock it?
Band – they were the life the party. We wouldn’t go any other way.

We want to hear YOUR advice for future brides.
Just soak it all in and enjoy it. Do not let your nerves or anxiety take the day from you. And just remember, this is your and your fiancé’s (almost husband) day… no one else’s.
