How did you meet?
We met while working as nurses in critical care together, but we didn’t start dating until after he started grad school.
How did he propose?
He proposed to me on a chartered sailing trip. I initially thought he would propose to me, but he was so relaxed I actually texted one of my friends and told her he wasn’t. He plans sweet things randomly and thought it might just be that, but at the very end of the trip during sunset, he popped the question.
Where was your ceremony held and why did you pick this site?
The ceremony was at Chateau Country Club in Kenner, Louisiana. It took place outside under the gazebo. I chose this venue because I liked the ceremony area and reception area.
Where was your Reception held and why did you pick this site?
The reception was also at Chateau Country Club in Kenner. I chose this venue mostly because of the location and price, but it turned out to be better than I could’ve ever imagined. The venue and staff helped us have the wedding of our dreams by helping us with the small details we may have forgotten.
Did you do a first look? If so how did you feel about it? If not, do you wish you had?
We did do a first look, and I highly recommend doing it with your fiancé and with your day. It’s such a special private moment. You can actually take in the moment. After a day of getting ready, it was so calming to see my fiancé. It was also great because we got to take soooooo many pictures before the wedding, so we didn’t waste any of our reception time. It also helps to get any tears out.
We want to hear YOUR advice for future brides.
Have a code word for your bridesmaids to tell you if you’re about to start crying! I’m a huge crier, HUGE! We came up with corntip (there’s an inside joke to it) I laughed so hard every time. My dad even said it when we did the first look and when he walked me down the isle. It helped him to and made for many laughs in the pictures.
Anything else you want to say?
You HAVE to pick Studio Tran Photography as your New Orleans wedding photographer! I can’t believe all the special moments and expressions they captured. I barely remembered them being at the wedding and definitely don’t remember seeing them at the ceremony. The quality of the pictures, wow. You can’t get any better. Pictures last a lifetime. Other things won’t. Splurge on your pics and extra time instead of maybe another food item or certain decorations.
What unique or special things did you do at the reception?
We had glow sticks for the reception as well as a second line to finish the night! A few things we didn’t do was the money dance, bouquet toss, and garter toss. My fiancé and I love to dance and loved the band Snapper and Fishsticks, that played at our wedding. We decided long before the wedding we didn’t want the party to stop for anything. I don’t regret it one bit and highly recommend it!!
What was your favorite part of the day?
The first look with my fiancé was the best part of the day. I got a feeling that is difficult to describe, but it was the best feeling I’ve ever experienced. It was a feeling of certainty and calmness.
Did it really go by as quickly as everyone says?
Yes and no. I want to relive it over and over again, but I made sure to enjoy the entire day from the moment I woke up. I spent the night with my bridesmaids at the hotel we were getting ready at. Woke up to no stress and a day to enjoy.
When you first saw the groom, what were you thinking/feeling?
This is the best feeling ever. No doubt I want to be with him for the rest of my life. And so glad I finally got to see him! Going a night and half a day without seeing him was rough.
When you first saw the bride, what were you thinking/feeling?
“How did I get so lucky”
Who was your baker, what was the flavor of your cake? Was it delicious?!
Local New Orleans Haydel’s Bakery made our cake. It was phenomenal! We had the standard cake with almond? filling along with a few others I can’t think of. My mouth is watering thinking of the taste. You can’t go wrong with any fillings, and the cake is so fresh and moist! They say they make it the day of the wedding! It tastes like they would!
